Want to save fuel while driving?

This list of tips starts with the most important and essential, without which nothing we do will work so effectively.

With petrol and diesel prices at historically high levels, driving efficiently is one of the best ways to reduce the consumption of our vehicle, regardless of engine type. A package of recommendations that save up to 500 euros per year, in addition to reducing emissions and extending the life of our vehicle and many of its parts.

This list of tips starts with the most important and essential, without which nothing we do will work so effectively. Tuning in the workshop once a year is essential, especially for older models.

Another important action when it comes to reducing fuel consumption is having the correct tire pressure. According to RACE, “driving with tires with a pressure of 0.5 bar lower than the pressure recommended by the manufacturer leads to a consumption increase of 2% in urban areas and 4% in inter-urban areas”. In addition, it should be borne in mind that during journeys, when traveling heavily loaded, this pressure must be increased by the manufacturer’s reference on the fuel cap or on the door frame. Failure to do so will not only increase tire wear but also tire wear, forcing replacement to be pushed forward. And since we are talking about tires, there is a type of rubber available in almost all brands with very low rolling resistance, ideal to help reduce consumption (up to 3%) and with prices very comparable to normal tires.

Fuel consumption is also very significantly reduced with the tendency to drive in the highest possible gear, even in the city within limits. And it is that today’s engines allow it and respond well even if we are circulating in high gears at very low revs with the engine turned off very well and consuming the minimum.

It has been proven that between 30 and 50% of fuel costs depend on how the owner drives. Therefore, it is necessary to follow some guidelines. For example, driving at a moderate and constant speed, without ups and downs or constant changes of pace, and keeping a safe distance, which allows us to drive at a constant speed without having to be aware of the brake.
