“We need to simplify purchasing assistance”

Date:

The Cupra case is a success in the automotive world. Five years ago, it was about the high-performance versions of Seat, known only to most motorcycle enthusiasts. Today it has become a profitable brand with a strong identity, so much so that it could threaten the future of Seat itself.

According to the general manager of the Spanish subsidiaries of both emblems,
Mikel Palomera, are “very satisfied with Cupra’s commercial performance”. This year they have registered 92,500 cars so far, more than in the previous full year and 81% more than the same period in 2021.

In Spain, these figures rise to 9,200 vehicles (+36%), of which 8,200 (+45%) come from the sales success, the Formentor sports SUV. In Spain, it has collected 19 awards since its launch in 2020 and has become the most registered model in the business channel.

Its 100% electric model, Born, has already become the second best-selling car, with the largest market shares in Germany and Austria. In Spain, it represents 4.1% of the zero-emission market, so despite the fact that there are 466 registrations so far this year, “it shows the good work of the commercial network,” Palomera said.

In a normal year, Cupra estimates “they have the capacity to reach 2,000 Born units.” Of these, the vast majority will be the E-Boost version, presented on Monday 19, which has more power and up to 549 kilometers of autonomy.

For this, however, it is necessary to “simplify purchase aid”. According to the manager, the biggest problem with buying an electric one is
“a different procedure for each autonomous community”and that the example of other European countries can be followed.

However, he noted that
the biggest determinant of electric vehicle adoption is per capita incomewith a chart showing European countries with higher purchasing power, such as Norway or Switzerland, had far more zero-emission models than Southern Europe.

An exception to this rule was Portugal, where electric vehicles are practically free in terms of registration and motor vehicle tax.

In the future,
Cupra becomes a completely emission-free brand with the next launches Terramar (SUV), Tavascan (SUV) and Urban Rebel, the tentative name of the urban model that will, predictably, be built in Martorell.

These announcements took place in the context of the presentation of the most powerful Born to date.
The E-Boost is a variant with 29 more horses of power and the mode also called E-Boost, which borrows the Porsche blade and offers maximum performance for 30 seconds.

Available in 58 and 77 kWh versions, the E-Boost comes with improvements in equipment, such as tires or suspension. 29 hp doesn’t seem like much, but it gives it just the right amount of performance the base Born needed, being able to accelerate to 50 mph in under 3 seconds and to 100 in under 7.

The 77 kWh model also makes these models able to exceed 500 km of autonomy for the first time, making them an interesting purchase for those who consider intercity travel a necessity. Prices, with discounts, start at 32,980 euros.
