The beauty of the desert, in a protected environment, where the buildings are no more than two floors and a turquoise sea, is the surprising landscape when you look out over the coast of
Cabo de Gata in the province of Almeria. A territory that catches you in the most absolute sobriety. Pure beauty, without embellishments or paraphernalia.

We start in Almería in the direction of Agua Amarga which crosses the A-7. As soon as you leave the highway in search of this small tourist town that the King and Queen of Spain brought into fashion in 2014, the real fun begins behind the wheel.
Talong the long straights of the A-7 The journey begins along two-way country roads where twisty mountain areas, with 360-degree curves, are combined with patches of dirt and sand. A litmus test to check the behavior of the Volkswagen T-Roc with R trim – 2.0 TSI petrol engine and 300 hp power.

Agua Amarga, like almost all small towns on the coast of Cabo de Gata, has its origins in small fishing villages, but they have been converted into a tourist destination. The protection of this area has allowed the construction of macro
hotel complexes -We must forget the Carboneras monster, which is outside Cabo de Gata–. As you approach along the road, you will see the group of white houses wedged between two mountains. In the streets there are shops and on the beach there are a large number of restaurants and beach bars.

From here we return via the regional road AL-5106. After five kilometers we swerve to the left to go up a path of earth and stones, in search of Plomo Bay. The driving mode selector that we find next to the gear lever. From this we can determine both the intervention of the
4Motion System such as the parameters of the adaptive suspension, the mechanics or the direction of our Volkswagen to adapt the driving mode to different situations.

Engine: 300 hp petrol. Length/width/height (in metres): 4,236 / 1,819 / 1,559. Trunk: 392 litres. Consumption: 8.6 liters per 100 kilometers with restricted driving. Maximum speed: 250 km/h. Acceleration: 4.8 seconds from 0 to 100 km/h. Price: from 52,420 euros.

We put the ‘off-road’ mode, which together with
DCC adaptive suspension, ease the seven kilometers of the infernal route to the coast. The pitfalls of the surface, with holes and deep ruts, accidents that would be pitfalls for a less equipped vehicle, with the T-Roc they are almost a walk to enjoy the scenery. Cala del Plomo is a pebble beach, but the treasure of this area is in Cala de Enmedio, which can be reached on foot, via the mountain, in a journey of about 20 minutes.

We continue our way on narrow roads, where there is only room for one car, but you can get everything out of it
carries at the heart of 300 hp that’s right under the hood. A descent with dizzying slopes may take us to Las Negras
the most beautiful town of Cabo de Gata. A haven for hippies in the 1980s who continue to populate the city. There are good restaurants and a nice beach atmosphere.

Six kilometers away, along the AL-4200, is El Playazo. A sandbar dominated by the fortress San Ramón (17th century) where many people gather in summer, but with a large parking lot. A little further is La Isleta del Moro, a fishing village
with three small chained bays. After passing San José – the ‘Benidorm’ of the area – we come to two sandbanks from the film, Genoveses and Mónsul. Genoveses is a small impressive bay enclosed by white limestone formations that change the color of the water to turquoise blue, a tone that remains constant in Mónsul.
