Liux Animal, the Spanish electric car with an ecological body, is presented in society

Date:

Liux was presented to society in Madrid at an event that welcomed 400 guests, including investors, press and companies collaborating with the project
to the brand’s first modelthe Animal, which has an ecological and recyclable body that is central to this company’s business plan.

Before a stage full of lights and screens appeared Antonio Espinosa de los Monteros who,
in the purest style of Steve Jobs -the late founder of Apple- or of Elon Musk -Tesla-, told about the journey that led Liux to the presentation of his model. Antonio, an entrepreneur who sold his solidarity water company to Estrella Galicia, believed that a car could be made much more ecologically than an electric one, an “eco” car from design to production and recycling. He met David Sancho, a designer who the realization of two complete projects and their adventure began.

In February of this year 2022, they found the funding to design a prototype. In May
they rented a warehouse in Santa Polawhere David lives and where he knows several suppliers, and they added experts – such as Ramón Paredes, ex-Seat – and suppliers who advised them on the ecological production of a new car.

As designers, they ‘signed’ Antonio Garrido, David Sancho’s mentor and teacher during his time at Valencia Polytechnic, and began working on the car.

After explaining all these keys, Liux Animal took the stage and David Sancho took the floor and described his qualities. It is an electric car with two functions never seen before. The first is that the batteries are expandable and replaceable with better ones.
when they come to market. It’s not about replacing the batteries with every charge, but about replacing them when other technologies come along or extending their autonomy as our use of the car changes. The Liux platform has two modules of 45 kilowatt hours each, so we can buy the car with 45 kWh and then expand or with 90 kWh, with a range of 600 kilometers for the version with the largest battery.

Another feature is the biobased body. On the aluminum and steel chassis, which supports the batteries, the rear engine – it can also be four-wheel drive – suspensions, etc., a flax fiber body is incorporated, similar to the carbon fiber used by Formula 1 cars. , and hardened with resins of plant origin, reducing chemical products and facilitating their recycling. These body parts are manufactured
using 3D molds on which the pieces are made. This procedure is cheaper and faster to industrialize than the usual steel bodies, which require huge presses to produce the sheet metal parts.

These two technologies accompany an attractive car with a very clean design, a ‘shooting brake’ body halfway between five doors and a family car of 4.60 meters long – comparable to, for example, a Ford Mustang Mach-e – with space for five passengers. and about 400 liters of luggage. the inside is
based on Google Automotive and it will have the usual safety, comfort and semi-autonomous driving systems, and it is already a real interior, fully designed with its screens, seat, steering wheel or buttons. The prices would be between 39,000 and 55,000 euros, depending on the chosen version.

This is another quality of
Lux animal. The model is not a model, but a functional car that still has a short set-up run before dynamic testing begins, scheduled for February 2023. The brand announced a start-up in 2024 – a very close date, common in the ‘ ‘start-up’ world, but it has adjusted its deadlines: 5,000 units can be produced in 2024 and around 30,000 in 2025 in a new factory.

For this, this ‘start-up’ is looking for funding to industrialize the model, i.e. do the production engineering and build a factory to realize it, a factory with a maximum capacity of 50,000 units, which will allow profitable production would be 30,000 a year and that would be able to divide its production over several models.
The Animal, the first of those presentedwould have a price of less than 40,000 euros, although it will depend on market factors, because, as Antonio said during the presentation, “we decided to design a car in the most difficult year in the history of automotive logistics .”

The prototype still lacks some details to polish, but the windows didn’t break as badly as Elon Musk did with his Tesla Cybertruck. The base is excellent, a car with family capacity, enough autonomy to travel, but a size suitable for the daily life of European families, and abandoning the SUV style to increase autonomy, a real key today in a electric car.

At the moment, the company is already part of one of the PERTE plans for electric vehicles, although official funding is not the main objective, and in the presentation the president of the community of Extremadura, Guillermo Fernández Vara, was also very active since the Chinese firm Envision confirmed that it will build a battery factory in its region.

The truth is that, as Antonio Espinosa emphasized during the presentation “Spain has an ecosystem of suppliers unique in the world, who have realized this project”, all that remains is for investors to fully understand the business plan and decide to invest in
this new brand of electric carsthe first of its kind in Europe and which will bring to market a disruptive and revolutionary way of car manufacturing.
