The name of the brand changed from a simple circle with the word KIA in it, to a KIA drawn with modern and connected letters.
In January 2021, Kia unveiled its new logo, a world record debut as it was unveiled in a pyrotechnic display over Seoul. During the event, 303 ‘pyrodrones’ launched hundreds of fireworks in a synchronized artistic display, launching and celebrating Kia’s new start. In this way the brand
got a Guinness World Record to ‘More synchronized setting off of fireworks by unmanned aerial vehicles’.
Now the brand is trending again, but for a completely different reason. Your new logo
already present in their new vehicles, creates a lot of confusion among potential stakeholders. It went from a simple circle with the word KIA in it, to a KIA drawn with modern connected letters.
And hence the problem that has arisen in social networks, since at first glance users do not see or read the word KIA, but
identifying the new logo as ‘KN’. That’s according to Google search data, which shows that nearly 30,000 people search for the name ‘KN’ every month, because they think it’s written that way. They have even started to think it was a new car brand.
These searches were picked up by Ashwinn Krishnaswamy on Twitter. This user noted that the search data around March 2021 showed a huge spike in people searching for ‘KN car’, just a few months after news of a new logo was posted. This also happened when the Kia Stinger, already with the new logo on the hood and rear, went on sale and became visible on the road.
Of course, this “inconvenience” is certainly not a problem for the Korean manufacturer, as users, for better or for worse, are looking for its brand and its portfolio. Mainly because even if you type ‘KN’ into Google the results are from KIA.
