Bruno Fernandes, midfielder of Portugal, pleaded to “respect” the decision of Cristiano Ronaldo of leaving Manchester United and assured that “nothing lasts forever, it’s good while it lasts”.
The Portuguese footballer and former teammate of Cristiano at Manchester United spoke at a press conference before the start of the World Cup against Ghana.
“Cristiano did not consult me,” Fernandes said on Wednesday. “It’s his personal decision. It involves him and his family. We have not talked about it. What we’re concentrating on is the World Cup. You know it, you know how important it is for him and for us to play this competition , this is the dream of every football player”, United media pointed out.
Cristiano and Fernandes shared a year and a half at United, until on Tuesday the Portuguese agreed with the Manchester club to terminate his contract.
“I’m not comfortable, I don’t have to choose a side. It’s been a privilege to play with Cristiano in the national team and in the club. It’s a dream, Cristiano has always been an inspiration to me. It was a dream come true, but nothing It lasts forever, it was nice while it lasted. He made a different decision for his life, for his career and we have to respect him, whether we agree or not,” he commented.
“This competition is very important for him, he will focus. I don’t think what he has done or decided will have any impact on us,” concluded Bruno Fernandes.
