La Mutua launches Voltio in Madrid, its new car-sharing company with a fleet of 500 100% electric vehicles
Spain is one of the European countries where micromobility and rental per minute formulas have become established. Three factors related to this growth are the high penetration of the ‘smartphone’, the significant territorial expansion of the cities and the fact that wages are at odds with car ownership.
According to data from
European Shared Mobility Index 2022, compiled by Fluctuo, more than 269,056 shared vehicles have already been registered on European territory. Madrid and Barcelona enter the ranking of the 10 most important European cities, in eighth and tenth place respectively. Madrid is the Spanish city with the largest number of new mobility services with 22 micromobility and shared mobility providers, followed by Barcelona with 20.
Voltio joins all this offer, a new Mutua Madrileña company starting in Madrid.
Voltio will be deployed in the first phase
a fleet of 500 100% electric vehiclesconsisting of 400 Fiat 500 Icon cars and 100 Opel Corsa e-cars, with which the company expects to save 1,500 tons of carbon dioxide emissions over the next 3 years.
“Our goal is for our customers to meet all their travel needs, from insuring their own car to offering services by the minute, day, week or month,” he says.
Victor ZambranaDeputy General Manager Insurance and New Businesses of Mutua Madrileña.
The start-up of Voltio fits in Mutua’s diversification strategy, which the company has been working on for years.
Acquisitions from Chipi (digital comparison services), Cabify (transportation vehicle with driver), Centauro (rental vehicles), El Parking and Imbric (urban mobility platforms) follow this growth line in new companies related to mobility. “Our presence in these companies forms a collaborative and very complete mobility ecosystem,” explains Zambrana.
The company goes to market with a
nas rates without registration fee and with a one-time fee of 0.30 cents per minute, with a stop rate of 0.15 cents per minute. From December 15 to January 31, there is a 50% discount on the rate, which is 0.15 cents per minute.
As explained
Conrad Espi, deputy assistant general manager of Mobility at Mutua Madrileña, both the intrinsic meaning of the word volt and its complementary meanings have played an important role in the company’s name. «The volt is the unit of the international system for measuring the electric potential, the motor force and the difference in electric voltage. It, in turn, is supplemented with the meaning “to take a volt”, to leave somewhere to go for a walk ».
To access Mutua’s carsharing vehicles, you must register in the Voltio app, which is free to download, and follow the instructions to select the vehicle. It is a 100% digital service that does not require a key, as the opening and closing of the vehicle is done via mobile phone. Mutua designed the technology and
the volt app in collaboration with Chipi, an insurer start-up for the development of digital mobility services. The service, which will be operational by mid-December, expects to create 300 jobs between direct and indirect positions.
This is shown by a study by
Free now 60% of Spaniards confirm that car sharing is the type of mobility best suited to their needs, followed by electric motorcycles (38%).
