Peugeot 408: new concept sedan with five doors

Date:

The model will be at the dealers from January, although orders from 33,350 euros are already accepted

Peugeot’s plans are moving full steam ahead towards electrification. But also try to adapt to the future with
new concepts such as the 308, a car already on sale in Spain and the first units of which will be in dealerships in the new year.

From the company they are aware of the success of SUV formats, but in this case they want to be ahead of the trends by proposing a 5-door sedan format.
A car designed for families, because with a length of 4.69 meters and a wheelbase of 2.79 meters, it has comfortable seats in both the front and rear seats, as well as a generous 536 liters trunk, which can be expanded to 1,611 liters when the backrests of the rear seats are folded down.

Its height is 1.48 m which allows to draw a fine and elegant body. In addition, and thanks to the plastic protectors on the underside, it does not completely abandon the crossover aesthetic that is so popular.

Aesthetically they stand out
single large 720mm wheels in diameter and 20-inch wheels, presenting a disruptive geometric design. At the front, the angular light signature integrates the 408 perfectly into the Peugeot family, as do the three-prong LED taillights at the rear.

The mechanical offer includes two plug-in hybrid versions of 180 and 225 CV and a version of
130 hp petrol. The starting price is 33,350 euros. All three engines are offered with an EAT8 8-speed automatic gearbox. The plug-in models have an electric range of over 64 km.

During the
international presentation We were able to test the most powerful version with plug-in hybrid mechanics. For example, we were able to see how the car drives with very good consumption figures, even when the battery reserve is exhausted. During our trip, the average didn’t come out at 6.5 liters per 100 kilometers, although this figure can vary depending on the type of ride we’re on. In hybrid mode and with the battery still working, consumption dropped to around 5 litres, including a fast stretch of highway at 120 km/h.

Engines: petrol and plug-in hybrid, from 131 to 224 hp. Length/Width/Height (m): 4.68/1.48/1.47 Trunk: from 536 to 1,661 litres. Consumption: from 1.1 l/100 km (PHEV) and 6 l/100 km (petrol). Electric autonomy: up to 64 km. Maximum speed: 233 km/h. Price: from 33,350 euros (without applying discounts)

Despite its great height, it moves with great ease in all kinds of environments, esp
in urban areas and highway. By being lower than a comparable SUV model, we can enjoy more balance on the road, allowing the aerodynamics to make the whole thing win, but without giving up space and versatility.

Peugeot is also considering launching a 100% electric version within a few years.

The brand estimates that most customers of the new Peugeot 408 will be couples, most of them active, with or without children, who will use their car for personal and professional purposes. A set of needs and desires, often complementary, will guide your choice. Some will want to move to the top of the range within the C-segment and have a bigger and roomier car.

Others will look for a more original and innovative body than that of a compact SUV,
which they find too ordinary and familiar. Finally others will appreciate the status of a big car. Everyone is looking for contemporary car sensations in everyday use or on long journeys, comfortably and in peace.
