A year after the presentation of the Circular Economy project of the Strategic Plan called Renaulution
Refactory SevilleRenault inaugurated this Friday in the presence of the Minister of Industry
maro kingsthe president of the Junta de Andalucía,
Juan Manuel Morenoand the Chairman and CEO of the Renault Group, the Spaniard
Jose Vicente de los Mozossome facilities that will become the first Circular Economy center where vehicles can get a second life.
This facility had
1.42 million euros in support from the Perte Fundsand it is one of 10 projects awarded to Renault Spain, which will receive a total of 40 million of the 870 of the first Perte.
This inauguration is also one of the last official acts of José Vicente de los Mozos at the head of the diamond company, as the manager announced that he will leave his post at Renault Group on January 15. From the waiters, he was received with applause from the workers at the entrance to the Sevillian factory.
The still Industrial Director of the Renault Group and Chairman and CEO of Renault Spain has stated that this inauguration marks the launch of Spain’s first circular economy project entirely dedicated to mobility “providing premium quality used vehicles that respond to sustainability challenges currently facing the automotive industry. With more than 50 years of consolidated history in the Andalusian industrial fabric, Refactory Sevilla is reinventing itself and is at the epicenter of the new era of mobility”.
In addition, De los Mozos made a request to the Minister of Industry to include hybrid vehicles in the next part, “as the automotive industry is in an orderly transition period,
in which hybrid vehicles still have a long way to gowith one or two more generations to full electrification.
The manager referred to the inauguration of the Refactory at the Seville factory as one of the key projects included in the Renault Industrial Plan Spain 2021-2024, which aims to make Spain the electrification pole of the Renault Group. The awards include 5 new vehicles and a new engine family for the plants in Castilla y León. Under the same plan, it was announced that the Seville plant would receive an innovative Circular Economy project and two new hybrid gearboxes for the new range of hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles from the Renault Group.
Today, it already produces one of these two hybrid gearboxes in addition to the gearbox for pure electric motors, which are fitted to vehicles from the Renault range such as the 100% electric Megane E-Tech and the new Renault Austral. This makes it the center of the Renault Group
production of all the Group’s hybrid gearboxes is concentrated.
This Refactory center will give used vehicles a second life by offering top quality used vehicles at competitive prices, thanks to the combination of efficient and standardized industrial tools with the industrial know-how of the Renault Group.
The activity will be structured around four lines that will accompany the entire life of the vehicle and act on the main levers of the circular economy.
In the Re-Trofit line, a 4.0 facility is inaugurated today, housing on 5,000 m2 all the activities necessary for the overhaul of multi-brand used vehicles, giving them a second life and
extend the useful life to more than 11,000 vehicles per year.
The new facilities consume 100% of their electrical energy from renewable sources and have a fully digitized process with high performance in their run times, saving energy and resources, offering a refurbished vehicle within a maximum period of 12 days, a reduction of 50% compared to going to a workshop.
After a thorough wash, using only 3 liters of water, the vehicle damage assessment begins, including an innovative scan of the tire tracks that can diagnose the vehicle and correct it if necessary.
The expert’s advice makes it possible to draw up a budget, which, when accepted by the customer, will start the order of the parts necessary for the repair.
The facilities have mechanic and body stations, as well as a pioneer painting station concentrated in a very small space: a sanding preparation area, a specially vacuumed and filtered area; an infrared drying room (smart repair) and a heated spray booth that makes it possible to offer an optimized process in continuous flow without interruptions.
After revision, in addition to the management of the ITV, an assessment of 100 check points is carried out. After receiving the quality approval, the cycle ends with another deep cleaning and a photo and video report, as steps prior to storage or transport.
Thanks to its digitized information systems, this workshop, dedicated exclusively to second-hand vehicles, offers unit monitoring of each vehicle, so that the customer can know at any time the status of his vehicle and the stage of the process.
The second phase, RE-ENERGY, brings the potential use of electric batteries to an industrial scale, developing applications in the second life of the modules that are no longer operational for the vehicle -but can be used for stationary energy storage-, and end-of-life management.
For its part, RE-CYCLE will contribute to the efficient management of resources and the supply flow of parts and materials, and RE-START will promote and identify new activities that enable continuous innovation in the circular economy, the development of the training of new skills. Refactory de Sevilla will be an open ecosystem in which, in collaboration with the French Flins factory, the Valladolid R&D Center, various partners, start-ups and university centers, it will accelerate research and training around the mobility of the future.
