The DGT detected 130 van drivers with positive points for alcohol or drugs last week

Date:

Exceeding the speed limit is the most common offence

Over the past week, agents of the Civil Guard’s Traffic Group checked 124,157 vans, 22,000 more than in the campaign conducted in 2019, and verified that 6,365 drivers did not comply with some traffic regulation.

In the preventative checks set up because of the
intensification of supervision, officers discovered 130 van drivers who tested positive for alcohol and other drugs. Specifically, 71 of them tested positive for drugs and 59 for alcohol.

Circular
exceed speed limits established on the road remains one of the most violated regulations of traffic and road safety regulations. At least, this is apparent from the results of the latest surveillance campaign conducted by the General Directorate of Traffic among van drivers in the week of 21 to 27 November, in which 1,464 drivers were charged with driving at higher speeds than permitted.

Another essential part of road safety is the seat belt, a feature that 365 van occupants were not using. It should be remembered that the use of this security system is the one that has saved the most lives in a traffic accident.

Another of the most controlled aspects due to the importance of proper vehicle maintenance for safe travel is called the technical inspection of vehicles. Specifically,
1,957 drivers were reported for driving without ITV in order. In addition, 205 van drivers were driving with tires in poor condition and a further 123 vans were immobilized because they did not meet minimum driving conditions.

The load of the vehicles is another aspect controlled as the weight and distribution of the load are vital in the event of an accident. In the seven days, 302 drivers were charged with exceeding the weight limit in their vehicle and another 250 with carrying an incorrect load. It should be remembered that the greater the mass of the van, the greater
safety distance must be maintained to stop the vehicle in time for unforeseen events.

About
the documentation of both vehicleshighlights, like the driver, the 471 complaints filed for these and other reasons, 119 for the lack of compulsory insurance.
