The car company is reorganizing its European production network, marking another milestone on its path to transformation as a provider of zero direct emissions mobility
Mercedes-Benz has confirmed it will produce a new electric van based on the company’s modular VAN.EA platform at its Spanish plant in Vitoria from the middle of the decade.
Company
announced this award in the context of the announcement of the project of a new factory for the future production of electric commercial vehicles in Jawor (Poland), also based on the VAN.EA platform.
The German multinational currently produces the mid-sized models of the Vans division, including the V-Class, the EQV, the eVito and the eVito Tourer.
Mercedes-Benz Vans noticed that
the current chassis-cab version of the Sprinter It has been produced in Ludwigsfelde since 2018 and the new eSprinter chassis cab will be produced there from 2024 (not available in the current electric model). A competence center for custom bodywork for electric vans will also be located in this plant.
The company recalled that last September it announced its intention to adapt its European production network for all-electric vans, with which the company and employee representatives for the factories in Düsseldorf, Ludwigsfelde in Germany and Victory have signed agreements.
As for the Düsseldorf plant, where the current generation is assembled
Sprinter van and eSprinterwill assemble the next generation of the eSprinter from the second half of next year and later some versions of a chassis-cab model based on VAN.EA.
