Where can I get the DGT sticker that allows access to cities with the new restrictions?

Date:

2023 has arrived, the year in which the Climate Change Act sets the limit for municipalities with more than 50,000 inhabitants to launch their Low Emission Zones (ZBE). In concrete terms, this means that 149 cities fall under the new requirements.

In preparation for applying discrimination policies to the most polluting vehicles, the DGT developed environmental labels, which classify cars, vans and motorcycles according to their efficiency. The labels are arranged according to the fuel they use and the Euro standard in which they are included.

There are four different labels. The
B (yellow)applies to petrol vehicles between 2001 and 2006 and diesel between 2006 and 2015. The
C (green) it is the best that internal combustion engine vehicles can aim for, it refers to diesel registered after 2015 (Euro 6) and petrol after 2006 (from Euro 4).

For people with electrical assistance, there are two labels,
Eco (green and blue duotone)including conventional hybrid cars (HEV), plug-in cars with an autonomy of less than 40 km, zero emissions (increasingly rare) and cars that run on gas, either natural (CNG) or liquefied petroleum (LPG).

Finally the label
zero (blue) It is intended for 100% electric vehicles, plug-in hybrids with more than 40 km and extended range electric vehicles, which use an internal combustion engine as a generator for their zero-emission propulsion.

With these four labels
The traffic excludes 50% of the Spanish mobile fleet, the most polluting. Their placement is not mandatory, but the municipal regulations that use them as identifiers may restrict access to vehicles that do not have one, so it is advisable to place them on the bottom right of the windscreen – failure to do so means a fine of 200 euros —

There are several ways to get the environmental sticker. This one,
at a cost of five euros it can be purchased at the post office, in the workshop network of the Spanish Confederation of Workshops (Cetraa) and other authorized repairers, in agencies and in the Institute of Automotive Studies (Ideauto). Moreover, in the case of fleets, it can be requested en bloc through Ganvam.

Environmental labels are only valid for driving in Spain, but other EU countries also have different environmental catalog systems. When traveling to another country, it is important to know whether it is necessary to get a badge at the destination and what the criteria are to be able to travel through certain areas.

However, there are certain similarities between the different European administrations that can be consulted on the DGT website. Foreign cars cannot apply for a Spanish label, but national agents know which label it corresponds to.
