It achieved a 2.1% share of the ‘premium’ market, compared to the 1.6% recorded last year
Alfa Romeo laid the foundations in 2022 of what should become its launch ramp that ends the declining trend the brand has been experiencing since 2019. If the Italian brand monopolizes 2.22% of the ‘premium’ market share of In the automotive sector in 2018, it experienced a gradual decline in the following three years leading to a cumulative share of only 1.56%. A decline that was broken last year by once again restoring the horizon of 2.08%, which puts the brand in tenth place in the ranking of ‘premium’ brands in Spain.
“In 2022, Alfa Romeo has given a good example of its competitive and maverick DNA,” he said in a meeting with the press.
Borja Sekulits, general manager of the brand for Spain and Portugal. Sekulits analyzed the situation in the automotive sector last year to appreciate what his brand has done. “In an environment where the Spanish market is down 5.4% and the ‘premium’ segment down 3.5%, Alfa Romeo has grown 28.3% compared to 2021,” he noted.
This trend reversal is expected to continue throughout 2023, “with double-digit growth,” the manager said. And for that they rely on the appeal that the new Tonale has and that it will live all year with the entire engine range, alongside the renewal of models such as Stelvio and Giulia.
Just last year was marked for Alfa Romeo by the launch of the Tonale, a small SUV that is on its way to becoming a new bestseller for the brand, and by the solidity of the Stelvio and the Giulia.
In terms of model, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio, with 1,950 orders in the year, is the brand’s best-selling model and takes the podium in its category, the D-SUV segment. Its superior finishes, Quadrifoglio, Veloce and Ti, represent 58% of its sales mix.
The Alfa Romeo Tonale has had a promising start. Despite being commercially launched in April, it is already the second best-selling Alfa Romeo in Spain, with 1,560 orders. The high presence of its electrified versions is striking: hybrid engines represent 56.1% of sales, while the plug-in hybrid versions arriving in February already account for 17.6% of orders.
For its part, the Alfa Romeo Giulia, with 193 registrations, is the second model with the highest sales in the Segment D sedan category, very close to the leader.
In 2023, Alfa Romeo will further deepen the electrification of its range. It marks the launch of the Alfa Romeo Tonale Plug-In Hybrid Q4, with 280 hp and all-wheel drive. In addition, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio and Giulia have been updated, with innovations such as Full Matrix headlights or a digital panel with three display modes.
The relationship with the customer goes one step further with a new loyalty program and the first steps of Alfa Romeo Certified in the second-hand market.
