Is it possible to save more than 3,500 euros per year by switching to an electric car?

Date:

Despite the fact that electrification, in particular the transition to a 100% electric vehicle, is progressing very slowly in Spain, this type of mechanics can generate significant savings, especially for commercial fleets.

Germany is the arena with the highest volume in Europe. In 2022, the country will end
with a growth of 1.1% in its sales figures, with 2.65 million registrations. Of these, 362,093 were plug-in hybrids and 470,559 were pure electric, with market shares of 13.7% and 17.7% respectively.

Of the Spanish total, only 5.9% of sales were plug-in hybrid cars, with 47,785 sales, and 3.8% were all-electric, with 30,544 registrations. On the other hand, especially the turnout they have had is remarkable
conventional hybrid modelswhich have already taken up almost a third of the market and have surpassed diesel as an alternative to propulsion: 239,471 hybrid cars were sold in 2022, 29.4% of the total.

According to data from Webfleet, Bridgestone’s globally trusted fleet management solution, European fleets using electric vehicles have saved an average of €3,599 per vehicle per year. These companies also saved 5,665 liters of fuel and 15 tonnes of CO2 per vehicle per year1.

This information is the first installment of Electrifying Data, a series of reports that map electric vehicle business opportunities with exclusive telematics data. The first report provides a clear picture of the level of cost, fuel and carbon emission reductions that are possible through fleet electrification.

The research also shows differences in average cost savings from country to country. In the UK and the Netherlands, the annual savings per vehicle from switching to electric are over €3,000, €3,800 and €3,500 respectively. In Denmark, France and Spain the figure is between 2,000 and 3,000 euros, while in Germany, Italy and Poland it rises to 2,000 euros.

In the words of
Taco van der Leij, vice president of Webfleet Europe: “The significant cost savings shown in the Electrifying Data report underline why fleet electrification makes business sense. Companies can access the Fleet Electrification Report, a feature that clearly shows which vehicles can be replaced by an electric model.

“After fuel prices rose in March this year, we saw a 300% increase in the use of this tool. It is clear that the electrification of fleets is a priority for many companies. With this report we want to show all fleets that they are switching to electric mobility
not only good for the planetbut also for your company. And the sooner the step is taken, the better for everyone.”

The results are based on the data of the first six months of 2022 and are based on an average price of 2 euros per liter of diesel. This data includes both personal and business mileage. The aid offered by the administrations of each region is not taken into account in the calculations.

The management solution
electric fleets is designed to help companies with every step of the electrification process, from planning the change and deployment of electric vehicles, to monitoring their usage, managing charging, reducing operating costs and everything in between, whatever is needed to extract the maximum value from electric mobility.
