DGT invests 610,678.25 euros in 70 new mobile radars

Date:

Fixed radar, section radar and mobile radar are usually the best known among motorists. Despite the implementation of this new invisible radar technology, fixed speed cameras are still the ones that cause the most fines for drivers. For now,
there are more than 2000 fixed strobes they are all over the Spanish geography, although Catalonia and the Basque Country are not represented by the devolved traffic authorities. The number of radars in Spain is unevenly distributed over the Spanish territory. At the moment Madrid is the province of our country with the most radars, followed by Seville, the Balearic Islands and Alicante. For their part, Soria, Ávila and Santa Cruz de Tenerife are the ones with the fewest radars.

But they have already been announced
an investment of 610,678.25 euros with which the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) has purchased 70 mobile radars for the Traffic Group of the Guardia Civil.

The mobile radar is in a Guardia Civil car, camouflaged or on a tripod next to the road, in any case always
must be operated by an agent. It works with both moving and stationary vehicles, making it difficult to locate. The advantage of this type of speed camera is the surprise factor, which means you don’t always know where they are as they can go through multiple locations during the day.

The contract for 70 portable laser cinemometers for the Civil Guard Traffic Group has been awarded to the
SME Saima Seguridad SA

This is how it reflects
contracting supplies published on the public procurement platform. The companies could present their bids until June 20.

In its explanatory report, the Ministry of the Interior emphasizes that since the establishment of the Civil Guard Traffic Group in August 1959, its competences have been those of “surveillance, protection and assistance on the road”, which are regulated by the strategic security plans, now operational plans to improve road safety.

Among the tasks entrusted to the agents of the
Traffic group of the Guardia Civilunderlines the text that control over the speed of the vehicles driving on the road network is found.

Likewise, he points out that the industry currently offers various tools with different technologies, which “although they do not offer”
solutions adapted to the speed requirements of the different roads that make up the national road network, they manage to achieve excellent results when properly combined, depending on the road network and the service to be provided«.

The document states that speed is “one of the components most present in the number of accidents, negatively affecting the severity of the results, as well as the injuries suffered by the victims.”

That is why the State wants to provide the Traffic Group of the Guardia Civil with:
portable laser kinemometers that “they serve to complement the systems currently in use to monitor the speed of the road network as effectively as possible”.

“That is, to supplement the current”
speed detection systemwith the use of small, compact, powerful, easy-to-handle and quickly deployable kinemometers that allow any officer to use them, regardless of the vehicle they are patrolling, four-wheel drive or motorcycles« , the Interior Ministry emphasizes in the supportive reminder.
