The trick that appears in the BOE to drive 150 km / h without getting a fine

Date:

The speed limits on the highway are clear: a maximum of 120 km/h, provided that it is on a highway or road with more than two lanes in each direction. However, as established by the
BOOthere is an exception that few drivers know about.

The DGT regulations include that in one of the articles
the limit goes up at 30 km/h for manufacturers who need to test their models, as long as they are identified as such and in specific ways. That is to say: only on some roads will a driver be able to drive 150 km/h without being fined by the Guardia Civil.

In concrete terms, Article 47 of the General Vehicle Regulations (Royal Decree 2822/1998 of 23 December) stipulates that “they may be granted to
vehicle manufacturers or their legal representativesto coachbuilders and official laboratories, who hold temporary operating permits,
authorizations to perform inspections or inspections on a particular vehicle of extraordinary research.

However, while the regulations allow you to reach that 150 km/h, there are conditions that significantly limit the limits of where, how and who can perform these tests.

Not everyone can go faster than 120 km/h, not even to overtake. These tests can only be carried out “on motorways, highways and other public roads within the national territory, for which it is necessary to exceed the generic speed limits established for this type of road”, and it will be the competent authority (when in doubt, the DGT ) which will determine the maximum speed to be assigned.

«
Unless the road is closed to general trafficmust not drive faster than 30 kilometers per hour above what is normally allowed for the road and vehicle in question,” they warn.

These tests”
should not be performed on urban roadsintersections or sections with specific signage limiting speed”, so for practical reasons this type of situation can only occur on very specific sections of dual carriageways and motorways of the Spanish road network.

The identification of these test vehicles is mandatory. In Section 6 of Article 47 they specify: “vehicles operating with the authorizations referred to in this Article shall, in addition to the registration plates and authorizations referred to in Article 44,
two plates with the letters FVin accordance with the provisions of Annex XI to this Regulation.

The costs of signaling and beaconing the sections necessary to carry out these tests are borne by the applicant (usually the manufacturer) and the request must be made “with
a minimum notice period of seventy-two hours», to arrange the special services deemed appropriate.

Only if all requirements are met will the driver not be fined if the speed exceeds 120 km/h. Otherwise,
the fine is 100 euros.
