“I think we’re going to reach that agreement, but if the technical issues don’t come to fruition in the will of both parties, it’s clear that the law definitely needs to be reformed,” Montero has condemned.
The Minister of Finance and Public Function, Mary Jesus Monterowas “optimistic” about the possibility of reaching an agreement with Unidas Podemos on the law of ‘Only yes is yes’although it does not exclude that a unilateral change if the debate “does not come to fruition”.
“I think we’re going get that dealbut if the technical issues do not come to fruition in the will of both parties, it is clear that the law will certainly have to be reformed,” condemns Montero, pointing out that the discussion between PSOE and Unidas Podemos focuses on “technical adjustments”
The minister has defended that “it is a good lawa conquest of feminism and women”, but deplores that the reductions in sentences for aggressors resulting from its application “have opened old wounds” among the victims.
For this reason, Montero considers it necessary correct the standard to “prevent a reduction of sentences”, but always with a view to “preserving the essence of this law, consent”, a demand that the minister says is reflected in all proposals sent to United We Can by the PSOE.
Montero has explained that the government partners are “working” towards the agreement, so he prefers it “discreet” when making statements because “all technical issues have different versions”.
