The new E-Class combines tradition and modernity. On the one hand, the vehicle series continues the long model history of the classic E-Class; on the other hand, its new look bridges the gap with the leading trendsetters from Mercedes-EQ. The new E-Class has the proportions of a classic three-piece sedan. The short front overhang and long bonnet are followed by the far rear cab. The cabin is spacious, which is also due to the fact that the wheelbase is two centimeters longer than that of the predecessor (2,961 millimeters). The ‘cab-back’ design is rounded off by the balanced rear overhang. The E-Class claims its status, among other things, through the so-called prestige dimension, or the distance from the front axle to the windscreen. However, sportsmanship has not been sacrificed. Power turrets accentuate the hood. The flowing C-pillar has a dynamic effect. The new E-Class is characterized by a wide track (front/rear: 1,634/1,648 mm) and wheels up to 21 inches flat on the outside. All separate character lines on the side accentuate the sporty character of the car. In this way, the surfaces with elaborate design shine in all their splendour. Following the design philosophy of ‘sensual clarity’, the designers have modeled a 3D sculpture with a special play of light. The chrome moldings are discreetly and elegantly placed. A striking detail at the front particularly illustrates the bridge between tradition and modernity: a panel-like black surface connects the radiator grille to the headlights. This insert in high-gloss black is visually reminiscent of the Mercedes-EQ models. The three-dimensionally designed radiator grille is progressive or classic, depending on the equipment line: in the Avantgarde version, the central star is integrated into the grille. Other design elements in this line are single slats, grilles in star chrome look and chrome frames. In the Exclusive version, on the other hand, the radiator grille has three horizontal double slats. This variant also has a standing star on the hood.
