Models feature new 48-volt hybrid technology

Fiat presents the new 500X Hybrid and Tipo Hybrid which complete the electrification of the range. The path started with the 500 Hybrid and the Panda Hybrid and continued with the New 500 and the electric-powered Ulysse. Now comes the launch of the new 500X and Type, featuring the new 48-volt hybrid engine. Fiat thus maintains its commitment to offer at least one low-emission version for each model and takes another step on the path of energy transition and sustainable mobility.

In the words of Olivier François, CEO of Fiat and CMO of Stellantis: “Fiat’s path to electrification continues. With the launch of the new 500X Hybrid and Tipo Hybrid, equipped with the new 48-volt Hybrid technology, the Fiat range is now fully electrified. We can now offer all our customers a sustainable mobility solution, whatever their mobility needs, with simple technology and at an affordable price. And there are more. Our road to sustainable mobility for all continues, with the goal, as I announced earlier, to launch a new vehicle every year from 2023. Each model will have an electric motor to achieve a fully electric range from 2027.”

Fiat is switching to hybrid technology in a simple way, allowing the user to make the transition to electrification in a natural way. And he does that with his best-selling city cars in Europe, the 500 and the Type. Now, with the new 500X Hybrid and Tipo Hybrid, the same approach applies: a technological solution that is user-friendly, but at the same time highly innovative and intelligent.

The partnership with (RED) continues as the 500X Hybrid and Tipo Hybrid launch in the special series with (RED) trim level, continuing to help spread the word that each of us can do our part for a good cause and can partner with (RED) in its fight against pandemics. The 500X Hybrid and Type Hybrid, more sustainable and more socially relevant.

The secret of the performance of the 500X Hybrid and Tipo Hybrid lies in the synergy between the latest generation FireFly engine, a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine capable of developing up to 97 kW (130 hp) with 240 Nm of torque , and the 48-volt, 15 kW electric motor, driven by the new 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The power of the FireFly is supported by a 100% electric silent start BSG electric motor and the e-motor that improves the efficiency and dynamics of the vehicle. In this way the car can drive with the combustion engine switched off.

The hybrid power supply has several advantages in the two new models, among which the start in 100% electric mode stands out: smooth, quiet and without wasting petrol. In addition, the car can continue to drive in all-electric mode, compatible with the power consumption and battery charge level (e-launch). The electrical supply can also be used for the e-creeping function, which involves making a series of short forward movements without pressing the accelerator pedal, for example in a traffic jam (e-queueing). The car can also be parked 100% electrically, both in first gear and in reverse (e-parking). In addition, the hybrid power supply is designed to recover energy, both during braking and deceleration.
