Polestar debuts in Spain with an electric sedan packed with technology and design

Date:

The 2, the name of the first car they put on the market, is a sedan with an autonomy of up to 540 kilometers

Four models in three years, that is the plan of Polestar, the new Swedish brand that has just broken through on the Spanish market. The Polestar 2 will arrive in June (but orders are already open), a representative sedan; It will be followed in 2023 by the Polestar 3, a large SUV; the Polestar 4 in 2024, a small SUV; and the Polestar 5, a model with distinctly sporty lines inspired by the concept known as Precept, which will close the range in 2025.

Born from Volvo’s guts, the new brand debuts with the Polestar 2, a premium electric car that will be launched from EUR 47,190. Technology, design and efficiency are the letters of introduction to attract customers, along with a range of up to 540 kilometers.

Marketing will take place via the internet for now, although they plan to install exhibition spaces in shopping centers as well as shops in city centers. Polestar uses Volvo’s current assistance and maintenance network, its parent brand, which has 80 locations in Spain, to provide service to buyers of its models.

The Polestar 2 is available with three different electric versions. The most powerful is the two 300 kW (408 hp) motors with a large 78 kWh battery, along with two single front motor models available with the same long range battery and one 170 kW motor, or a battery with less power than the standard range (69 kWh) and the same 170 kW motor.

Optional packages have been designed for better accessibility. The Plus Pack includes the all-glass panoramic roof, 13-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, WeaveTech trim, Black Ash trim panels, electrically heated front seats with memory, heated rear seats, heated steering wheel and windshield wipers, plus a mechanical heat pump.

The heat pump is designed to increase the autonomy of the vehicle’s battery by acclimatizing the cabin. It uses the ambient heat and residual thermal energy from the transmission to reduce the air-conditioning process by up to 50%. In colder climates, especially between 5 and 15 degrees Celsius, the range can be improved by up to 10%. Continuous development allows for future improvements and significant advancements through OTA updates.

The Pilot Lite Pack includes improvements in safety and driver assistance, such as driver assistance with adaptive cruise control and Pilot Assist, a 360-degree surround camera, front and rear parking sensors, and Driver Awareness, including the Blind Spot Information System (BLIS). ) with Steering Support, Cross Traffic Alert with Brake Support and Rear Collision Warning.

The Polestar 2 is a lot of fun to drive, thanks in large part to the accelerator that uses all the energy when you lift your foot to charge the battery. This means that the brake practically does not need to be touched during normal road driving, including winding mountain roads, which helps to maintain the load and increase the range of the vehicle.

lighting and bodywork

With an emphasis on the clean and simple forms of Scandinavian architecture, the exterior and interior is showcased with LED lighting throughout the exterior. Unique LED headlights and a full-width taillight with ultra-bright 288 LEDs are standard.

In addition, the Polestar 2’s five-door coupe body has clean, elongated lines, and the standard 19-inch wheels and tires give it a rugged look with virtually no shiny chrome elements. This translates into a vehicle with a size that offers the comfort and practicality of an SUV or crossover and a look that inspires the fantasy of a sports sedan.

The battery has a warranty of 8 years / 160,000 km or a health status (SOH) of 70%. In practice, Polestar expects battery life to be equivalent to vehicle life depending on its usage.

Access to the vehicle’s central computer is easy thanks to Google’s voice assistant, which prevents the driver from taking their hands off the steering wheel to perform an action or query. The Google Assistant can be accessed by simply saying “Hey Google” or “Ok Google” and asking to change stations, pick a destination, make a call, or anything else you want.
