Still, Anfac warns that with the current pace of electrification, the milestone of 120,000 electrified cars by 2022 would not be reached to meet the PNIEC targets
Sales of electrified vehicles rose 35.4% in April to 6,608 registered units, representing 8% of the total market for the month. For the cumulative of the year, 25,706 registrations are added, being one of every 10 of the total sales. While these numbers are positive, the association emphasizes the need to accelerate the pace of electrification to
achieve emission reduction targets founded by the PNIEC in 2022.
For their part, registrations of electrified, hybrid and gas vehicles (cars, quadricycles, commercial and industrial vehicles and buses) boosted their sales in April by 8.9% compared to the same month of the previous year, to 27,702 delivered units. In the cumulative figure for the year, deliveries of these vehicles grew 17.7% to 97,776 units.
In the past month, sales of alternative vehicles (electrified, hybrid and gas)
have a larger volume than the diesel vehicle market (22,436 units) and near deliveries of petrol vehicles (30,539 units). In April, alternative vehicles made up a total of 34.3% of the total market, while petrol and diesel made up 37.8% and 27.8% of sales in April.
Jose Lopez-Tafall, general manager of Anfac, pointed out that «electrified vehicles have again shown a better evolution than the general market in the past month. It’s good news that this type of vehicle is increasingly becoming a more present option for users. However, while it is growing, demand must be stimulated and accelerated if we are to meet the emissions reduction targets set by the PNIEC. At the current pace, this year we will still be a long way from the milestone of 120,000 electrified cars by 2022. The sector continues to make progress with a wide range of vehicles, but it is very necessary to create a context with more certainty for the user by promoting the charging infrastructure, greater efficiency of emergency plans and a favorable tax framework that makes the electric vehicle a first purchase option.
