How is the ITV I have to pass on the motorcycle?

Date:

The first inspection must be passed 4 years after the first registration, and every two years thereafter. For mopeds after the third year and after that also every two years

The Technical Inspection of Vehicles (ITV) is a mandatory procedure in Spain. The first on a motorcycle must be passed 4 years after the first registration and then every two years. Mopeds are exempt until the third year after their first registration and every two years thereafter. You should go to an ITV station
and submit the following documentation:: the technical file of the vehicle (also called ITV card of the motorcycle), the circulation permit and the valid insurance certificate.

If the result of the inspection is favourable, but there are minor defects, you will have to correct them, but you do not have to pass the inspection again. In the event that it has serious or very serious defects, the result may be unfavorable or even negative. In either case you have two months to fix the deficiencies and get through the ITV again. The difference is that with the negative ITV the vehicle will not be able to circulate or go to the workshop and according to RACE you can only use the services of a tow truck or trailer to transport it.

If it is not passed on at the right time, that is, it circulates with the expiration, will entail a fine of 200 euros; and circle as the
result was unfavorable, from 500 In the former case, the authorities will revoke your circulation permit and instead give you a permit to drive to the nearest workshop or ITV center within a maximum period of 10 days in order to comply with the obligation to pass said inspection.

In concrete terms, when the motorcycle is inspected, the frame number and whether the registration number is clearly legible; that the tires are in good condition (tread with a minimum depth of 1.6 mm) and that they correspond to those stated on the technical data sheet; that the lighting system works correctly, that the mirrors and other elements, such as the exhaust pipe, are approved and are those shown on the vehicle card; They will check the levers, fairing, steering wheel, suspension, brakes, any oil or fuel leaks, transmission and they will perform the emissions and noise tests.

On the other hand, when inspecting a moped, in addition to what has been said above, the inspector will check that it does not go faster than 45 km/h, the maximum speed allowed for this type of vehicle, and that the exhaust gases is the original and homologated.

The
price of the motorcycle ITV changes according to the Autonomous Community where you live, as rates are different in each place. In general, Extremadura and Mallorca are the municipalities with the cheapest rates for almost all types of vehicles. Just the opposite of Ceuta, which is still the one with the highest prices to pass the ITV.

On average, they usually have a price of 20 euros, but for example it will cost you much less to pass the inspection in Mallorca, which currently costs 14.35 euros, compared to the 40.33 you pay in Ceuta. In Madrid the rate varies between 36 and 40 euros, 35.25 in Galicia, from 18.58 to 21.25 in Catalonia or 37.20 in Andalusia. Another curiosity arises in the latter: once you go over time, the price is taxed with an additional 12%.
