Young people from the age of 16 can already drive. In the coming months, the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) announced the introduction in our country of the so-called B1 permit. This will allow them to drive this type of vehicle, previously only for those who had car B, provided that:
do not exceed speed limits of 90 km/h

In concrete terms, these types of cars must be heavy quadricycles (homologated as L7e) with an engine with a speed of at least 60 km/h and a
power less than 20 hpIdeal for city and suburban driving. In this way, almost 1 million young people between 16 and 18 years in Spain will have access to safe electric mobility.

What and how are the models currently on the market that these young people can wear?
We collect them

The YOYO, the electric car of the Italian brand XEV, is one of the cars that meets these characteristics. Among the advantages of this vehicle are: the lower consumption (only 0.074 Kwh/km, less than 2 euros per 100 km), the great ease of charging because it can be charged via a household plug without having to install a charging point. Its compact design measuring 2.5 meters long x 1.5 meters wide and its efficient motor that reaches a maximum speed of 90 km/h.

For example, the YOYO offers safety features such as the ABS anti-lock braking system, a high-strength, energy-absorbing steel structure for frontal impacts, steel door reinforcements for side impacts and a steel roof pillar for roll-over protection.

The Silence S04 is a two-seater electric microcar with dimensions of 2.33 meters long and 1.56 meters high. It will be marketed in two versions with different power ratings, and it is the most powerful, with a 19 hp electric unit that can reach a speed of up to 90 km/h and promises to homologate a range of 149 kilometers based on the WMTC cycle (homologation used in motorcycles), which can be carried with this type of card.

It is equipped with a multifunction steering wheel, climate control, a seven-inch TFT screen, a Bluetooth sound system and a holder for a mobile phone. But if it stands out anywhere, it is because of the removable and interchangeable battery system, with a handle to make them easy to transport.

The small Renault is marketed in 2 versions, with 100 km of autonomy. It is designed to move in major urban centers, coastal towns where you have a second home, for teenagers without a driver’s license in its 4 kW (5 hp) version, which can reach a speed of 45 km/h; and for the new youngsters who choose to get this new driving licence, in the 15 kW (20 CV) version, where the maximum speed will be 80 km/h.

Easy to use, the Twizy is an electric and automatic car (it has no clutch or gear lever, just 2 pedals, accelerator and brake), 2 buttons on the front of the dashboard where you can switch directly (D), reverse (R) and neutral (N) with simultaneous activation of D and R. It allows 2 occupants: the driver in the front and another passenger in the rear, under whose seat is a small luggage area of 31 liters, although this seat can be reversed and the contents can be enlarged to 50 litres. For this reason, the Twizy can be considered a combination of a car and a scooter, as it is closed off by the roof.

It is a two-seat vehicle (two people in a row) that can change the width of the front axle from 86 centimeters to 148 centimeters, depending on whether it is in maneuver mode or road mode. It is approved as an L7e electric four-wheeler, making it perfect for this new licensing category.

The electric powertrain consists of two motors, each capable of producing up to 10 kW (13.4 hp). However, the total power of the system is electronically limited to 15 kW (6.7 hp), in order to comply with homologation. To provide them with energy, it has a replaceable battery with a capacity of 8 kWh, whose autonomy is 100 km.

The Microlino is an electric microcar that reminds you of the legendary classic BMW Isetta. It is approved as a four-wheeler in the European Union, so it is perfect as an option. The striking design generally draws attention to its large tilting door that takes the windshield away and gives access to the two seats offered within it. Despite its size, it has 230 liters of storage space in the trunk.

It has a 12.5 kW (16.8 hp) electric motor that develops a torque of 100 Nm and brings the maximum speed of this electric car to 90 km/h, as stated in the homologation. At launch, it will be available in three variants: Urban, Dolce and Competizione, with a range of up to 230 kilometers.

Invicta Electric has two models available. In the case of the D2S, in its 17 kW version, it reaches 80 km/h and 150 km of autonomy. And in the case of the Épica, you can tour the city in a powerful and efficient two-seater, also at speeds of up to 80 km/h. Only 6 hours to fully charge the vehicle, 120 km normally, in any household plug, without complications.

They use state-of-the-art, very light batteries, which, together with a lightweight vehicle and a sophisticated engine, make it possible to travel up to 250 km on a single charge.

Aixam is a leading brand in the construction and marketing of vehicles that do not require a driver’s license, but there is one that fits into this range. This is Scouty R, 2.7 meters long and 1.5 wide. It has an automatic variator transmission with a forward gear, a neutral gear and a reverse gear.

Although only in the petrol version, since it is the one with 505 cc, it consumes 5 liters and reaches 90 km/h. The diesel engine has a displacement of 400 cc, but only reaches 45, so a license would not be necessary.

The e-Miles is a prototype electric vehicle with a length of 2.5 meters, although it can be extended by 37 centimeters to become a four-seater or increase the load space, thanks to an innovative automatic chassis extension system. The wide folding front door allows access to the interior, even in a wheelchair, thanks to the absence of the steering wheel, pedals and dashboard, which have been replaced by a central joystick and a giant screen with all indicators.

Another major difference from a conventional car is the absence of mirrors, which are replaced by two cameras to monitor the environment and display the images on the aforementioned front screen. It also doesn’t have a windshield wiper, as the front glass is made of polycarbonate, with a coating used in the aviation industry to repel water and dirt that can obscure visibility.
