Situations where overtaking is completely prohibited

The data shows that in Spain there are more than 2500 accidents with victims every year as a result of illegal overtaking

Overtaking is one of the most dangerous maneuvers in car traffic, so safety precautions must be taken to avoid creating a risk to the driver and third parties. Overtaking is regulated in the General Traffic Regulations, between Articles 82 to 89, and in the Traffic, Motor Vehicles and Road Safety Act, between Articles 32 to 37.

And it is that the data shows that in Spain there are more than 2500 accidents with
victims as a result of overtaking illegal.

For this reason, overtaking is prohibited in places where the lack of visibility means that
this maneuver is very dangerous: on bends and changes of inclination without visibility, behind a large vehicle overtaking, on level and pedestrian crossings, at some intersections and tunnels.

Please also note that according to the new Traffic Act and Road Safety, in force since March 21, 2022.
