Maxus Euniq5: a family of seven seats and 100% electric

Date:

With a range of 356 km, the model meets the needs of families who need a lot of space

Maxus has more than 120 years of history dedicated to industrial vehicle production and industrial brands such as Leyland, MG, Morris, BMC, Austin, Freight Rover, Leyland DAF and LDV have passed through time.

Even in the Spanish city of Valladolid, between 1965 and 1989, one of its most famous models, the van popularly known as SAVA J4, was produced under license from the British Morris Motor Company. In 2009, the SAIC Motor car group acquired and relaunched the centennial British industrial brand, dubbed Maxus, offering technology at the highest level. The already well-known range of vans, the electric e-Deliver 3 and e-Deliver 9 and diesel Deliver 9, is now complemented by the EUNIQ 5, a 100% electric family car with seven seats, which is already on sale in our country for 39,900 euros .

With this model, Maxus is targeting a public with very specific needs: that of a 100% electric vehicle for urban and regional journeys, and that of a large space, both for passengers and for luggage.

And the model perfectly meets these two characteristics. The EUNIQ 5 has a 130 kW (177 hp) electric motor and 310 Nm of torque, which makes it easy to move the seven occupants with their luggage. The battery has a capacity of 52.5 kWh, which ensures an electric autonomy in the urban cycle of 260 km (WLTP), which can reach 356 km in the urban cycle. It also includes two type 2 charging cables (Mennekes): mode 2 for slow Schuko charging and another mode 3 for fast charging.

In practice, if we move mainly in the city, the autonomy can be even greater, so that with an average of 50 km per day it is possible to move with this car for almost a week without recharging. Despite its large size, we asked to verify during our test drive that the car moves freely in traffic, with the logical limitations of its length. It responds quickly to the accelerator pedal and is comfortable, as it is very smooth as befits a minibus. It has two driving modes: normal and ECO, with three retention options to recover energy and recharge the battery when we take our foot off the accelerator.

If space is one of our fundamental requirements, the euniq 5 passes with flying colors. We have a maximum of seven seats spread over three rows of seats. They are all easily accessible, with the special feature that if we want to get to the third row, we should preferably do so via the right back door. The rear seat is acceptable in size, although it is common for children to travel in it, which will be more comfortable than adults. We also have a large panoramic roof that enhances the feeling of space and light. With the three rows of seats, we still have a luggage space of 406 liters left. This volume can rise to 1,162 if we lower the third row of seats and to 2,230 if we lower the two rear rows.

Available with a single finish, the car offers us a quality of materials that is quite acceptable in principle, with elements such as heated and electrically adjustable seats, wireless charging for smartphones, door opening and keyless ignition, peripheral vision camera 360 and the Mirror Link- function, available for both Apple Car Play. For Android phones, use the QD Link app, which works in a similar way.

The large screen displaying the 12.3-inch touch infotainment system is located in the center console. For the driver, the instrument panel is fully digital, although the radio does not have an ISDN system.

We also have safety systems and driving aids such as front, side and curtain airbags, Hill Start Assist, Frontal Collision Warning, Blind Spot Detection, Lane Departure Warning or cruise control.

Engine: 177 hp electric

Consumption: 23.1 kWh/100km

Autonomy: 260 km

Length/width/height (in meters): 4.82/1.82/1.80

Trunk: from 406 liters

Price: € 46,900 (without the application of discounts, promotions or Moves Plan)

Aesthetically, it is not an SUV, the most fashionable segment, but they have a stylized image thanks to the aggressive front consisting of a generous grille and a large air intake. It has Full LED headlights and many chrome surfaces that give it elegance. The wheels are standard 17 inches.
