Hyundai Staria: minibus with futuristic aesthetics, up to 9 seats and faithful to the combustion engine

Date:

The brand expects to capture a significant part of the segment this year, selling between 200 and 300 units

Hyundai takes a step forward with the Staria, a minivan that breaks with the tradition of leaving this segment installed on the market in recent years. A segment, that of the minivans, that has been languishing for years due to the rise of large SUVs. However, about 2,000 such vehicles are sold every year.

“It is a small share of the overall market, but there are few models and there is still demand, so we think we will be able to fit between 200 and 300 Staria annually,” said Hyundai CEO Leopoldo Satrústegui.

The Staria is a clean-lined minivan, with a futuristic look, but staying true to combustion engines. Initially, it will only come with a 177 hp diesel version (the same as the San Fe), an eight-speed automatic transmission and three trim levels: Style, Maxx and Tecno. Hybrid or plug-in hybrid versions may come in the future, but not in time. The traction can be front or full and has three driving modes to adapt the vehicle’s behavior to the driver’s needs: Eco, Normal and Sport.

The price of the new Hyundai model starts at 52,990 euros (Maxx finish) and the highest version, the Style, is marketed from 62,990 euros. It can have seven (Style) or nine seats (Maxx and Tecno), depending on the configuration.

At first glance, the exterior image evokes the streamlined shape of a spaceship, with a line running sideways from front to back in one movement. The front is accentuated by LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL) and a position light that, in combination, span the entire width of the vehicle and are complemented by a bold, wide grille with a unique design pattern.

Hyundai uses the same color as the body color for all front parts to maximize the sleek, modern styling of the car. In the Style finish, it adds exclusive design details for a look and feel of maximum luxury.

The 18-inch wheels, standard on all finishes, feature diamond patterns and graphics. Low beltline and panoramic side windows improve overall visibility. It is available in four exterior colours: black, white, silver and blue.

The use of the interior space of the Staria is possible thanks to a wheelbase of 3,273 meters, with a total vehicle length of 5,253 meters and a width of almost two meters. The overall height is almost two meters and has been optimized so that passengers can get in and out of the vehicle comfortably.

It has holes and storage spaces in the overhead console, in the lower part of the instruments and in the upper and lower part of the dashboard. It is available in seven and nine seat configurations.

Technologically, it contains the most advanced elements in terms of security and connectivity. It has a 10.25-inch digital screen, a navigation system with another 10.25-inch screen. Connectivity equipment includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a Bose sound system with 12 speakers, a wireless charging station, as well as live valet parking, online voice recognition or the ‘Find my car’ function.
