All chargers for phones, tablets, cameras, headphones or speakers must be type C. The only devices that fall outside this scheme are laptops, for which the standard will not apply until April 2026.
The government of Spain is transposing the European directive so that 2025 All mobile phones, tablets and cameras sold in the Spanish state are equipped with a single chargera USB type C charging port, as reported by the Minister of Digital Transformation of the Spanish government, José Luis Escrivá.
By Royal Decree of 6 May, the Council of Ministers approved the amendment of the regulations regarding the placing on the market of radio equipment to require a single charger. For example, from next year, all chargers for mobile phones, tablets, cameras, headphones, speakers or portable game consoles must be type C to ensure greater user comfort.
A different charger is no longer required for each new device. The approved legislation allows consumers to use a single charger for a variety of newly purchased small and medium-sized portable electronic devices, which must have an integrated USB Type-C port.
Regardless of manufacturer, the obligation will apply to all mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras, headphones, e-books, keyboards and mice, as well as video game consoles, speakers, navigation systems and laptops.
For laptops, the same obligation will come into effect in April 2026, Escrivá added.
