The ease of getting around the city center, the ease of parking, the speed and the concern for the environment are the main reasons why Spaniards use micro-mobility and shared mobility options
Six out of ten Spaniards are not aware of the regulations of passenger cars and shared mobility vehicles (scooters, bicycles, motorcycles and shared cars) that already exist in our cities, despite the fact that more than 40% of Spaniards confirm that they use these new forms mobility several times a month, according to a study by Free Now.
In addition, 54% of Spaniards say they have used shared scooters, bicycles, motorcycles or cars, with young people between 18 and 25 and Spaniards between 31 and 40 making the most use of these means of transport. The
favorite option of the Spaniards?, for now it is car sharing. 60% confirm that it is the one that best suits their needs, followed by electric motorcycles (38%), electric bicycles (26%) and finally electric scooters (15%).
Despite the growing penetration of these new forms of mobility,
notes a general lack of awareness by users about traffic rules and road safety. For example, only 2 in 10 people know the traffic rules for electric scooters, and on the other hand, 60% of young people between the ages of 18 and 25 say that they do not use these options because they do not know how to use them.
“While certain mobility options have been around for longer in our cities and are being implemented more widely, such as shared cars or electric motorcycles, of which there is more knowledge of their traffic rules (36% and 37%, respectively, according to the survey’s data), there is still a general lack of knowledge about the regulations that apply to other newer modes of transport, such as scooters for example,” he says.

For example, wearing a helmet is mandatory when moving in one of these devices, and in the case of scooters, they will no longer be able to circulate on the sidewalk and pedestrian area, and it has been determined that the VMP will have no preference in these spaces.
They are also not allowed to drive on interurban roads, intersections, highways, freeways or urban tunnels. They are also not allowed to wear headphones or use a mobile phone or other device while driving.
Likewise, the drivers are subject to the same maximum alcohol percentages allowed by the road safety law, as well as the prohibition to drive with the presence of drugs in the body.
