Skoda Karoq: more economical and with sustainable materials

Date:

It maintains diesel and petrol versions from 110 to 190 hp, with the option of front-wheel drive or 4X4

The little brother of the KODIAQ, surpassed only by the OCTAVIA, was the second best-selling ŠKODA model worldwide in 2020, as well as the first in the first six months of 2021. In Spain there are around 21,000 units since its launch. sold, 23% with 4X4 all-wheel drive and 60% with the DSG automatic transmission.

The brand has renewed this model, which now has a more stylized exterior design with the aim of achieving better aerodynamics and thus reducing CO2 emissions by 15%. The compact SUV is now offered with sustainable materials, new technology and more efficient engines, preserving diesel and petrol, 4X2 and 4X4.

Aesthetically, the renovation is fundamentally noticeable in the new grille at the front, wider and now hexagonal, the redesigned skirts, as well as the more stylized front and rear lights with LED technology. First of all, Matrix full-LED technology can now be equipped as an option. In addition to renewing the car’s image after its first years of commercial life, the aim of these changes is to improve CO2 emissions, which are now 15% lower than the model it replaces.

Aerodynamics have been improved by more than 9% thanks to a redesigned front apron and longer rear wing, giving the Karoq a drag coefficient (cd) of 0.30. This improvement is not only noticeable in consumption, but also in driving silence. During the presentation of this ‘rest’ we had the opportunity to shoot with the 150 CV diesel version with 4X4 traction, where we could verify first hand the reduced consumption as well as the silence and driving comfort. The test was not long enough to say anything about the fuel consumption achieved, but the car approved an average of 5.7 l/100 km in our test version, not far from what was recorded during our drive of about an hour each the Madrid mountains. But with the 116 hp TDi version it is possible to achieve a consumption of 4.7 l/100 km, with emissions of 124 g/km, and with the DGT signature C (green).

The changes are also noticeable in the car’s interior, with new trim and upholstery options, which can be made with sustainable materials from recycled bottles. Improved LED ambient lighting, which now also illuminates the rear door trim in one of ten available colours, and the front passenger seat including electrical adjustment and memory function, as well as the three-zone Climatronic system.

It offers great comfort in all its seats and ergonomically all controls are accessible so that it can be adapted to driving very easily and quickly. It also highlights its large trunk, 521 litres, expandable to 1,630 by folding the rear seats.

In addition to the SPORTLINE variant, the KAROQ is available in Active, Ambition and Style trim levels.

engines: petrol and diesel from 110 to 190 hp, manual gearbox or 6-speed DSG, with front or four-wheel drive
Length/width/height (m): 4.38/1.84/1.60
Trunk: from 521 to 1,630 litres
Consumption: from 4.7 l/100 km

You can choose between two diesel and three petrol engines with outputs between 81 kW (110 hp) and 140 kW (190 hp). The 2.0 TSI engine with 190 hp is exclusive to the KAROQ SPORTLINE and is equipped with four-wheel drive as standard. The 2.0 TDI now has 150 hp and 4×4 drive is optionally offered.
