Yadea arrives in Spain with the intention of entering the ‘top 3’ of sales by 2025

Date:

Yadea, the largest electric motorcycle manufacturer in the world, has already officially landed in Spain. And no less with the intention of capturing 12% of the market share of zero-emission scooters in Spain — 20% in terms of the business channel — which would put us in the top 3 manufacturers.

Yadea’s arrival comes at a time when the private and business market is taking off, once the motosharing channel has placed the number of permitted vehicles on the streets of major cities.

The company estimates that the zero-emission two-wheeler market will grow nearly 82.4% over four years, from 11,836 registrations in 2021 to approximately 21,605 in 2025, according to calculations by Grant Thornton. During this period, the mobile fleet has grown by 74,809 motorcycles and mopeds and the private customer market has grown by 72%.

The other channels will also see even bigger booms. For businesses, the indicator is expected to reach 88.2%, while motorcycle sharing will practically double, increasing by 96%, to 5,967 registrations, a far cry from the 9,466 it reached in 2020.

According to Yadea, support for two-wheeled electric vehicles promotes “an imbalance between mopeds and motorcycles”, negatively affecting the pace of transformation of cities, as cities with smaller displacements are not included. The President of Yadea Spain, Ernesto Ko, requested that these models be included in state grants.

«The moped has a powerful democratizing component in the transformation of sustainable mobility: it is more affordable (30% lower prices) and it is a 100% urban vehicle. We welcome the initiatives of some administrations that are including it in their plans, such as the City Council and the Municipality of Madrid,” he stated. If included, they estimate that there will be 3,500 new buyers per year.

In addition, the Chinese multinational presented the products with which they will arrive in Spain, the first market outside Asia. This range consists of two mopeds, two private motorcycles, one for the business channel and two scooters, all electric. The price range for scooters ranges from 2,390 euros to 4,790 euros.

The most expensive model will be the new flagship, the Yadea V-Fly F-200. This is a high-end scooter, with a 10 kW motor that accelerates to 50 km/h in 2.5 seconds. It also has voice commands to start, lock or use the multimedia system (for example, to send a message at a traffic light). For now, this bike is only sold in China.

This range will be marketed through its own sales and service centers which the brand plans to open in Spain and which, unsurprisingly, will be operational before 2023, when the models are delivered. By 2025, they aim to double this number and reach 400.

In 2021 Yadea sold 6.1 million electric motorcycles, making it the largest manufacturer of these models in the world. Turnover was EUR 192.9 million, 43% more than in 2020. The company has been listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange since 2016, under the symbol 01585:HK.
