The CEO of Smart attended his latest seminar, he talked about the commercial changes of his brand
Forum for Electrification, the consortium of associations and companies that aims to promote the use of electrical energy in society, held a seminar on the future of sustainable mobility, taking advantage of the fact that the European Council next Tuesday will adopt Parliament’s decision to ban sales of internal combustion engines from 2035.
The general manager of Aedive, the association that advocates the promotion of the electric vehicle, stated that this mode of transport is now a reality: “We have high-tech vehicles with autonomy that allow us to cover more than 300 km in normal conditions, more reasonable prices and a charging infrastructure that obviously needs to be developed further to keep up with the number of electric vehicle registrations, but the reality is that you can already travel with the existing infrastructure, the challenges and problems are getting less and less.
For his part, the CEO of Smart Spain, Alberto Olivera, underlined the necessity faced by car manufacturers: to evolve to remain relevant in a world where the online trading model is increasingly dominant.
Since Geely took over the urban compact brand and focused on its electrification, “we’ve made radical changes in three axes of our business model,” he says. «The range, the relationship with the customers and the way of car sales. It is essential that the relationship between manufacturer and customer is direct. For this reason, you can now configure and buy a car without leaving your home, with a network of dealers for those who want to see it».
One of the companies carrying the most weight in last-mile delivery is Mahou San Miguel, which has completely transformed its vans for low-emission units. The director of Own Distribution, Javier Guerrero, confirms that from 2023 there will be more than 150 cities with low-emission zones, “it is essential that distribution evolves, especially if we take into account that we have become accustomed to immediacy. We need sustainable urban distribution that takes into account not only emission reductions, but also smaller vehicles.”
However, in the micromobility ecosystem, bike sharing plays a significant role. In Madrid alone, there are five different services operating at the same time. Cooltra’s commercial director, one of the first to arrive, stated that “companies – small, medium and large – want an electric fleet. But the public administration also wants them: the Municipal Police, the City Police, the National Police and even the Army. This is very important, because it has its reflection in society. A hopeful future awaits us.”
