Technological, efficient and connected, this is the Renault Austral available to order now
Renault opens reservations for the new Austral for the first time. Produced at the Palencia plant for the national and international market, it will be one of the pillars of the recapture of the C-segment that is the heart of the world car market.
More than 34,000 interested parties have already joined the ‘Austral now’ program for the new model, which has been active since February. In addition to the multiple content available on the dedicated website, those enrolled in the program will receive exclusive information about the model.
The new Renault Austral combines all the codes of the SUV with Renault’s new ‘sensual tech’ design language: its generous and sensual shapes are combined with dynamic lines and very precise and structured details, such as the LED rear lights with micro-optical technology and the diamond-shaped drawings integrated into the headlamps.
The exterior design is athletic, sophisticated and elegant at the same time. It exudes a premium feel, enhanced by geometric control that is clearly visible, and is ideally proportioned to give a sense of space from the outside.
The new Renault Austral offers a range of innovative engines, with different electrification technologies to cover all applications without changing habits: a new generation of the hybrid E-Tech system on a 400 V network and developing up to 200 hp, as well as another petrol engine: a 140 and 160 CV 12 V Mild Hybrid.
The highly anticipated model features an E-Tech hybrid powertrain tuned to power a higher-end vehicle and deliver greater performance and driving pleasure, while reducing fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. It is equipped with a new 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine, combined with an electric motor, a 1.7 kWh 400V lithium-ion battery and a crabot-optimized multi-mode automatic transmission. For example, the engine has a combined power of up to 146 kW or 200 hp. As with the previous generation of E-Tech hybrid engines, all starts are made in 100% electric mode to provide the driving pleasure of electric vehicles, combining quietness and responsiveness. Equipped with this new E-Tech hybrid engine, the Austral offers optimum fuel consumption and CO2 emissions (from 4.6 l/100 km and 105 g/km CO2 subject to final homologation) for a cost-effectiveness at the best level of all hybrid SUVs (HEV) on the market.
The Austral’s interior design is also distinguished by its ‘great comfort console’: modern and neat, it subtly delimits the driver and passenger compartment. The console features a sliding palm rest for comfortable use of the multimedia screen. It also has a specific ‘smartphone’ lock with an inductive charger and practical storage space for everyday use.
The high-tech cockpit is structured around the large OpenR display, which combines the data display on the 12.3-inch instrument panel with the 12-inch vertical multimedia display. The new 9.3” head-up display, projected onto the windshield, adds to the number of screens on board.
Depending on the trim level and options selected, the interior features real wood, leather, Alcantara, foam, soft-touch upholstery materials and high-gloss black paint and satin chrome finishes. Sensual, high-quality materials that bring warmth and sophistication to the interior. The whole experience is enhanced by the vibrant and customizable lighting of the Living Lights system.
Its generous trunk, which is offered with a hands-free motorized tailgate, has a volume of 500 dm3 VDA in Mild Hybrid versions. With the seat moved, it increases to 575 dm3 VDA. When the seat is folded, the available volume reaches 1,525 dm3 VDA.
The advanced Multi-Sense technology offers three pre-programmed driving modes: Eco, Comfort and Sport. A fourth mode (Perso) allows full customization of settings. With the Extended Grip package, two additional modes are offered: a ‘snow’ mode and an ‘all terrain’ mode. The driver can switch from one mode to another at any time, including via voice commands via Google Assistant. The Austral also offers a new feature to reduce fuel consumption: proactive recommendations to switch to Eco mode.
This model inaugurates the third generation of Renault’s four-wheel steering, which has been continuously improved over the past 15 years: ‘4Control advanced’. Unique in the C-SUV segment, it offers unprecedented comfort, improved maneuverability and unparalleled dynamic performance. Thanks to the integration of a steering actuator on the multi-link rear axle that comes with this equipment, the steering angle of the rear wheels now reaches 5° for a turning circle that is even smaller than that of a city car, at 10.1 metres.
