The CUPRA Formentor VZ5 is equipped with the 2.5 TSI five-cylinder engine, which delivers 390 hp (287 kW) and 480 Nm of torque

The CUPRA Formentor is the first vehicle designed and developed exclusively by the brand. The introduction of the new VZ5 version in the range completes the engine range and pushes its limits one step further. With a five-cylinder engine, improved dynamics and an even more advanced and exclusive experience on board, the CUPRA Formentor VZ5 brings a unique proposition to the market.

The specific name VZ refers to the term ‘fast’ in Spanish, a perfect signature for the most powerful versions of the CUPRA Formentor (from 245 CV/180 kW). The model’s name owes it to the promontory of Formentor in Mallorca, which is located in one of the most beautiful and wild areas of the Balearic Islands.

The CUPRA Formentor VZ5 takes the attributes of the crossover SUV to the extreme and becomes an even more exclusive vehicle thanks to production limited to 7,000 units. The powerful five-cylinder engine with 390 hp (287 kW) and 480 Nm of torque is the ultimate expression of sportiness in a combustion car. Its high performance represents a turning point in the perception of the brand and shows how far its limits are.

The Formentor VZ5 has a specific riding mode, designed for closed-circuit use. It is the so-called Drift mode, which offers real driving pleasure thanks to the optimization of the torque distribution on the rear axle. The exterior design reflects the technological character of the car. Here it is more aggressive with the application of carbon fiber details that perfectly match the dynamics of the VZ5.

The interior provides modernity and sportiness, with that unique touch that only the brand can print. The most striking elements of the interior are the CUPRA steering wheel with satellite buttons, the infotainment system with a 30.4 cm (12″) screen and the various connectivity solutions. The finishing touch is provided by the exclusive leather CUPBucket seats, very sporty and ergonomic , which are shown for the first time in the Formentor VZ5.

And as the roads get busier, safety and comfort become more important. The driver assistance systems built into the most powerful Formentor make it one of the safest models in its segment.

The combination of this TSI engine with the advanced Adaptive Chassis Control (DCC), the driving modes with the CUPRA Drive Profile selector, the Progressive Steering, the fast seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission and the 4Drive all-wheel drive, results in a vehicle in which dynamics, emotion and performance are fully guaranteed.

The ‘Torque Splitter’ technology for selective torque control distributes the engine’s power between the front and rear axles to optimize traction. But it goes one step further, as it also allows the split between the left and right wheels of the rear axle, making the CUPRA Formentor even more stable when conditions get more demanding.

The dynamic proportions of the crossover SUV are enhanced by the shape of the rear, which attracts attention and also emphasizes the length of a hood which, on the VZ5 version, is specific and gets a new look thanks to sculpted lines on the upper part . These lines direct the eye to the CUPRA metal emblem on the black grille that integrates the new frame in Sport Black Matt. At the bottom is the newly designed front bumper.

Below the LED headlights are two air intakes that make the car’s appearance more aggressive. For its part, the front splitter is responsible for directing the airflow to the intercoolers, improving cooling.

The side profile design is a statement of intent and emphasizes sportiness. The power and dynamism of the Formentor VZ5 are embodied in very voluminous wheel arches with wider tracks and specific 51 cm (20″) copper-coloured alloy wheels. Also typical of the VZ5 is the Akebono brake set with calipers in the same color.

The sleek, yet aggressive design continues at the rear with the carbon fiber diffuser and vertically positioned copper-colored quadruple exhaust vents enhancing the car’s personality. The CUPRA lettering and the new exclusive VZ5 logo are finished in black chrome.

Under the hood, the iconic five-cylinder TSI turbocharged direct injection engine roars, producing a maximum power of 390 hp (287 kW) between 5,700 rpm and 7,000 rpm. The maximum torque of 480 Nm is available from 2,250 rpm.

The aluminum block-in-line five-cylinder engine integrates an exhaust valve lift system and benefits from injection operating at a pressure of 250 bar to optimize the air/fuel mixture, helping it to deliver its incredible performance figures.

The special 1-2-4-5-3 firing order and the unusual number of cylinders give the CUPRA Formentor VZ5 a characteristic sound, also characterized by the exclusive quadruple exhaust system that emphasizes the melody of the engine.

The excellent 2.5-litre engine is mated to a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission that shifts quickly. This combination allows the CUPRA Formentor VZ5 to accelerate from 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 250 km/h. With these numbers, emotions at the wheel are guaranteed.
