The DGT will offer a driver training for the delivery of motorcycles and mopeds

Date:

The aim is to improve the driving techniques of these urban vans to prevent and anticipate risk situations, applying good practices both in driving and in relation to the equipment

‘Driving for motorcycle and moped delivery’ is the training that has been included for the first time and at the request of the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) in the training catalog of the National Employment Office (SEPE). Skilled and capable people is one of the 9 strategic areas included in the Road Safety Strategy 2030, presented by the Minister of the Interior last June,
Fernando Grande-Marlaska. This document aims to be the national frame of reference in road safety policy, with the aim of:
Halve the number of dead and seriously injured caused by traffic accidents in the year 2030.

In view of this and with a view to vulnerable users, including motorcyclists, the DGT has asked the Employment Service to include this course in its training program, given the increase in distribution professionals that has taken place in recent years.

In Spain, according to the employers’ organization UNO, about 20,000 people are employed in the distribution of goods by motorcycle or moped, a market that tends to continue to grow, partly due to the rise of electronic commerce. The aim of the course is to improve the driving techniques of motorcycles and mopeds in the city to
prevent and anticipate risk situationsadopting good practices, both in driving and equipment.

The course, with a duration of 8 hours, is conducted in a mixed manner. The first part goes through a virtual classroom where the theoretical knowledge of the course is taught. Then the practical part, already in person, is performed on a track to learn or improve driving skills.

With the inclusion of this course in the catalog of SEPE training needs and its subsequent completion, one of the actions included in the biennial 2022-23 plan of the 2030 Road Safety Strategy has been fulfilled, an action aimed at improving the behavior and improve the safety of motorcycle and moped users engaged in the distribution of goods.

The first step in implementing this and other training programs for employees was the publication by the State Foundation for Employment Training, Fundae, of the call for government grants to implement state-wide training programs.

The grant is open to training centers that offer training actions for the acquisition of skills and mainly target salaried workers, people affected by ERE or ERTE or unemployed people in training processes. Entities interested in accessing this grant have until August 4 to submit all documentation as stated in the call.
