A tragic walk took place on Thursday afternoon in the municipality of Mellau in Vorarlberg. A 72-year-old man separated from his wife at the top station, who took the gondola down to the valley to walk his dog to the bottom station. However, the man never came.
On Thursday afternoon, the 72-year-old man and his wife went on a hike in Mellau. Around 3 p.m., the couple broke up near the Rossstelle mountain station because the woman was taking the mountain railway to the valley and the 72-year-old wanted to walk into the valley with his dog.
When the man did not appear at the parked car as agreed and could not be reached by telephone, the woman made an emergency call at 7:15 pm. A search was launched involving the mountain rescue service and a cell phone location.
Akita Inu is missing
The 72-year-old was eventually found dead at 11:15 p.m. under the mountain station in difficult-to-access terrain. Due to the finish position, the man must have fallen at least 70 meters through steep, rocky terrain. According to the police, there are currently no indications of third party culpability. The dog, an Akita Inu, has not yet been found. The dog’s leash and harness were with the body.
