A man has died while hiking in the Italian Alps after trying to recover a lost cell phone. The 30-year-old Italian fell 200 meters on Saturday afternoon at the Altar Knotto rock formation in the Vicentine Alps in northern Italy’s Veneto region, authorities said.
The mountain rescue team has towed the emergency services by helicopter to the scene of the accident to recover the dead.
The newspaper “Corriere della Sera” reported in its Sunday edition that the man and his partner, who lost their mobile phones as a result, had previously documented their walk on social media and shared photos of themselves. After the accident, the woman alerted authorities.
