After the forest fire on the Harzberg mountain in Bad Vöslau (Lower Austria) on Saturday, investigation into the cause of the fire revealed two possible causes. Afterglow particles from a discarded cigarette or the remains of a campfire are possible triggers.
The cause clearly could not be clarified, police spokesman Raimund Schwaigerlehner said at the request of APA on Sunday. “Further investigations are underway,” it was emphasized.
The forest fire broke out on Saturday afternoon. A column of smoke was visible from afar and numerous emergency calls came in. A total of ten fire brigades attended the scene.
About 100 helpers quickly brought the flames under control on steep terrain and a police helicopter was also involved. The fire was reported to have been extinguished around 4:30 p.m.
