The damage is extensive, but it could have been worse: Thanks to an observant driver, a fire in Schnann in the Tyrolean Oberland did not get out of hand on Sunday morning.
The man was driving his car in the Schnann area around 9:30 a.m. on Sunday when he saw thick smoke rising from the attic of a home. The witness responded quickly, immediately called 911 and drove straight to the house to take a look.
Residents hadn’t noticed the fire yet
The driver of the vehicle pressed the alarm bell, waking the residents of the house. They hadn’t noticed the fire in the kitchen yet. They then used a fire extinguisher to fight the flames and were able to control most of the fire. The oncoming fire brigades Schnann, Pettneu and St. Anton were able to get him under control.
Switched on hob as the cause of the fire
No one was injured in the fire due to the driver’s quick action. According to the police, the reason for the fire was “with a probability bordering on certainty” that a stove was on.
