After a “chance meeting” – stomach stab: three years in prison for young Styrian

Date:

An offer to buy drugs among young people in Knittelfeld led to a bloody fight: a 17-year-old from Upper Styria gave a 15-year-old a stomach stab. On Monday he stood before a jury in Leoben and was sentenced to three years in prison (not final).

The thin arms of Upper Styria, covered in scars, bear witness to difficult times: depression, a suicide attempt, self-harm and drugs. “I’ve tried everything intoxicating.”

After forced admission and therapy, it went uphill again: “I got my life back under control and started an internship,” the 17-year-old told the jury of the Leoben court on Monday.

But just as he entered vocational school in Knittelfeld, his life would take another dramatic turn: when he and two slightly intoxicated classmates happened to meet a group of Syrian youth who offered them “meadow”, ie marijuana, an argument broke out.

The exact course of events can hardly be reconstructed due to the chaotic testimonies, to the chagrin of the judges. In any case, the suspect insulted the dealers, wanted to drive them away, and ended up stabbing a 15-year-old with a snack knife. “He just missed the liver,” the prosecutor said. The victim was seriously injured and the stabbing could have been fatal. So the charge is attempted murder.

Initially, the Styrian pleaded for serious bodily harm, but stumbled over his own statements and soon seemed rather indifferent and confessed to the attempted murder. Verdict: three years in prison, not final.
