Up to 100 liters – Heavy rainfall led to flooding in the blink of an eye

Date:

In parts of Upper Austria, up to 100 liters per square meter of rain fell in a short time on Sunday. This also led to local flooding.

The south of the country was particularly affected by heavy rainfall. This usually only took a few minutes. Up to 100 millimeters of precipitation was measured in Bad Goisern on Sunday. Streams were suddenly created as the water ran off the surface.

There was also massive rainfall in the central area, usually only for a short time. The parched ground couldn’t absorb the water, it ran off the surface. In Alcoves and Ansfelden, the water masses could not find their way to the next stream bed, but gathered near buildings.

In Alcove, three fire brigades spent several hours pumping water from a flooded house. The professional fire brigade Linz sent another pump in support.

Monday and Tuesday it will remain rainy and with a maximum of 21 degrees too cool for the time of year, summer will not return until Wednesday.
