The third round of the summer school starts on Monday. Some 17,200 students in Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland are presenting the lessons for two weeks this time, followed a week later by 22,000 students in the other federal states. The offer has been expanded compared to previous years: Originally introduced to make up for learning disadvantages due to corona, the summer school is now also open to students without special needs.
In addition to German and Mathematics (as well as general studies in primary school), this year there are also offers for English for the first time. In addition to remedial education, the children and young people must be able to immerse themselves in their lesson content or prepare for final exams, the transition after the 4th or 8th grade or participate in school competitions such as the Chemistry Olympiad.
German courses for Ukraine students
There are also German courses for students who have fled Ukraine. This year, for the first time, the summer school can also be offered all day, for example, in Burgenland there is an extra afternoon program at 20 locations.
Project lessons take place in small groups with six to 15 children in primary, middle and special education as well as at AHS lower secondary education. Four fifths of the registrations concern these school types. There is a course system at the higher levels. Participation remains voluntary, teaching students and teachers keep the classes. After improvements in fees, this time, unlike in previous years, there were enough employees for the summer school, according to the Ministry of Education.
