Police Test – Out of 17 candidates, only five push-ups

Date:

High School Diploma, But No “Muckis”: Of the 17 candidates for the police academy, 12 are said to have recently failed the required push-ups. The result: the police have no more agents.

But not only a lack of fitness is a problem, but also spelling and grammar, where it throws most future police officers out of the loop. “If I look at our requirements in advance, I can train specifically for that,” says Andreas Pilsl, director of the state police, annoyed by the morale of some applicants.

Mainly men as applicants
While as many women as men applied, two-thirds of applicants are now male since the refugee crisis and terrorist attacks. The proportion of migrants is more than manageable, 28 police students have only two to three non-German speaking parents per study programme.

difficult quest
Police Chief Pilsl confirms that the training offensive ordered by politicians is also causing problems for the executive in Upper Austria: “We have hired 200 new people each over the past three years. We have now reached the ceiling and have to compete with large companies such as Fronius, who are looking for 2,000 employees. We also have strong competition from strong companies in the Innviertel.” In total, about 4,500 people, including administration, are currently employed by the police in Upper Austria, a historic high.
