From next week, Vienna will expand the range of voluntary corona tests in kindergartens. The approximately 1,600 municipal and private kindergartens receive a PCR lollipop test for those children who cannot yet use a PCR gargle test. This was confirmed on Friday by the office of Alderman for Health Peter Hacker (SPÖ).
The “Lollipop” tests can be taken voluntarily by parents at home and handed in at the kindergarten on a given day. The tests were tested in five kindergartens in Vienna from April 2021.
Pilot phase took longer than planned
The subsequent pilot phase at 200 locations ultimately took longer than planned, also because no positive tests were initially required for series production.
Earlier this year, the city had already equipped kindergartens – as well as special schools – with funnels to allow more younger or disabled children to use Covid gargle tests.
