In front of the Vienna State Opera – 100 days: Family members commemorate Hamas hostages

Date:

The wind is blowing ice cold in front of the Vienna State Opera. Nevertheless, scores of people gathered on Sunday to commemorate the 136 hostages abducted by Hamas to Gaza 100 days ago and still under their control. Meanwhile, a convoy of cars with Palestinian flags flying rolled along the ring road.

The participants in the action showed 136 photos showing the faces of the hostages. They want to draw attention to the fate of these people. This also applies to Marianna, a Viennese woman who is afraid of her nephew: “I have known Bar since he was a baby, he is a really great boy, with blue eyes, always helpful,” she tells the “Krone”.

Bar is one of 136 hostages brought to Gaza 100 days ago. “He worked at this festival and took care of everyone like a hero. He tried to create escape routes. He repeatedly ran into the danger zone to treat the wounded. We know that from people who have left there,” reports Marianna, who feels “that the world is abandoning these people.” She continues to hope that she will be able to hug her nephew again soon: “He belongs at home. Unless proven otherwise, he is alive and coming back.”

In addition to Marianna, prominent representatives such as Clemens Obonya and Katharina Stemberger were also present. Israeli Ambassador David Roet also took part in the campaign and was overwhelmed by the solidarity of the people. He himself held a photo of a baby in his hands. He hopes for support from the US and other countries in the fight against Hamas.
