The municipality has received many complaints in recent weeks. Internet platforms charge high fees for online applications that are actually cheap. The city is enough, they told the operator.
Complaints are currently piling up about alleged money grabs at registration confirmations and church exits. This should be possible quickly and easily via our own platforms. To do this, customers have to enter their personal details online, submit documents and, of course, pay. Then the bureaucracy takes over. Ideally, the desired confirmation comes later.
You can do it, you don’t have to
The problem: These are not official websites and the service is anything but cheap. For example, leaving the church on this platform costs just under 30 euros. However, if you do this directly through the city of Vienna, it is free. Only those who appear in person at the office or want an additional confirmation pay a small fee. A confirmation of registration also officially costs only three euros – but the Viennese has to pay almost 18 euros through the said platform.
If the order leads to the desired result, at best you have taken an unnecessarily expensive detour. It’s getting worrisome with the data. They are the real gold on the internet. If these fall into the wrong hands, the 30 euros quickly appear as peanuts.
Public Prosecution Service in Vienna is now on the train
At least the city has heard enough. “Last week we sent a fact sheet to the prosecutor’s office,” said a spokeswoman for the central control room. They have also contacted Google. “If someone had searched for confirmation of registration or leaving the church, the two sides would be displayed at the top of the results,” the spokeswoman said.
Now the prosecutor has to clarify whether the case is illegal or just morally problematic.
