Uprooted and broken trees, covered roofs, torn billboards: heavy gusts of wind kept the emergency services in suspense on Monday. The districts of Mödling and Baden were particularly affected.
On the Jauerling in the Krems district, wind speeds of up to 115 km/h were measured on Monday, and on the Buchbergerwarte in the Vienna Forest between Maria Anzbach and Neulengbach, wind gusts reached 112 km/h, meteorologists report. The storm kept emergency services throughout Lower Austria on tenterhooks. In the morning alone, the fire brigades had to respond more than seventy times. Especially in the southern area around Vienna it was necessary to remove traces of the sometimes hurricane force.
The tin roof flew away
In Kottingbrunn in the Baden district, gusts of wind covered the approximately 400 square meter metal roof of an industrial hall. Debris was also thrown against an adjacent commercial building and into the surrounding street. Roadblocks were the result. And in Mödling, two large trees fell on the road in Husarentempelgasse, and firefighters sawed through the trunks and secured them.
Billboard on the highway
A dangerous incident occurred in Wiener Neudorf in the Mödling district, where an SCS billboard was torn loose and parts of it fell onto the highway, where fortunately no accidents occurred. The emergency services secured the sign with tension straps. The fire brigade reports that disassembly was not possible due to the gusts of wind.
Traffic accidents caused by storms
Motorists were also affected by the storm. On the B17 in Teesdorf, a car trailer was hit by strong gusts of wind and pushed into the ditch, where it fell over. A fallen tree blocked the B212 between Berndorf and Großau. A driver was unable to avoid the collision and his car crashed into the top of a tree.
Tree falls on hut
The tarpaulin of a film greenhouse in Altenmarkt an der Triesting was torn away by the storm and emergency services had to secure the parts. A little later, the volunteers were sent to the Klein-Mariazell district – there an uprooted tree had fallen on a garden house.
