Junker Jonas-Schlössle – Renaissance jewel escapes fire disaster

Date:

The “Junker Jonas Schlössle” in the municipality of Götzis in Vorarlberg is considered a unique example of a stately residence from the Renaissance in the Lake Constance area. The jewel of the building escaped a catastrophic fire on Saturday.

Named after doctor Jakob Jonas, the history of the building must have begun in 1582 and could end dramatically 440 years later. Saturday a smoldering fire broke out at the bar, which was attached directly to the historic Schlössle, and which houses a drinks stall.

According to initial information, this was probably caused by a radiant heater mounted directly behind the serving lid. Fortunately, this was discovered in time and quickly extinguished by the Götzis fire brigade.

According to the Florianis, things could have turned out differently – something like this happens at night and is not immediately noticed if the development had been more dramatic.
