Shortly before local derby – paraglider pilot crashes on football field

A terrible accident happened in the municipality of Alberschwende in Vorarlberg on Sunday morning. A paraglider pilot crashed into the local football field and was seriously injured in both legs and head, according to initial information.

In the municipality of Alberschwende in the Bregenzerwald there was a festive mood on Sunday morning. The reason: the Vorarlbergliga derby between Alberschwende and local rivals from Bezau, which was set to start at 11 a.m. In late summer, many spectators had already gathered on the sports field for the Sunday matinee. To celebrate the day, the match ball would be flown in by two paraglider pilots.

While the first of the two pilots landed safely on the football field, nothing went according to plan with the second. The man hit the lawn hard and was seriously injured in both legs, according to eyewitnesses. There was also a head injury.

Rescuers immediately rushed to the field to treat the fallen victim. The emergency doctor helicopter Christophorus 8 was only minutes after the tragic accident and eventually landed directly on the field.

After approximately 45 minutes of care, the helicopter departed with the injured person for further medical care in the direction of the hospital.
