The women of the punk rock collective Pussy Riot are probably already used to being arrested for their criticism of the Kremlin. But now three band members have been arrested in Switzerland and even taken away in handcuffs. The reason: an anti-war message on a street wall.
It is known that the members of the Russian band are not afraid of the consequences when it comes to spreading their messages. This time they caught the attention of the police in the municipality of Köniz near Berne when they put anti-war graffiti on a street wall. According to the Russian portal Mediazona, Marija Alyokhina (34), Lucy Stein and Taso Pletner were taken away “handcuffed”.
“The police officer said they could be kicked out of Switzerland,” explains Alexander Cheparukin, the band’s producer. “I have pictures of them being led away in handcuffs. But I’m not allowed to publish them,” he said. At first he didn’t even know where they were being taken.
Arrested before the graffiti was completed
The graffiti is supposed to show the distance from the village of Köniz to the war theater in Ukraine. However, it was not quite finished – the mileage is missing. Information from the population had called law enforcement officers into action.
According to the Russian portal, the activists were later released and escorted to their hotel by the police. The band is currently on a major tour of Europe – the next gig would be in Hunziken. According to “Blick”, it is unclear whether this concert can go ahead as planned.
