The suspect allegedly tried to kill his wife with a cut cable – she was in the shower. That should have just been the culmination of a long “martyrdom”: The 42-year-old is said to have regularly beaten her and their ten children together. He doesn’t understand the charges: “I’m not to blame!”
“We were all under his control. We were locked up and beaten. We were not allowed to do anything unless he allowed it,” the 18-year-old daughter of the accused paints a picture of family horror in the Vienna court. The mother and their ten children lived in constant fear.
Two sides of family life
The height of violence: the woman’s father is said to have given the woman an electric shock with a cut cable. According to the expert, the circuit breaker saved the life of the 37-year-old. The 42-year-old defendant (lawyer A. Reichenbach) states that life with his family was “quite harmonious”. He sees a major conspiracy against him – fueled by his in-laws.
The father with the two faces?
He also claimed to the psychiatric expert, “I am the most loving father you can imagine.” But the family’s statements paint a very different picture. The expert is undecided: If the accused is actually guilty, he sees in him “someone who is outwardly inconspicuous and kind, but in the family system a terrible violent criminal. In short, a sadist, as a kind of ‘double entry’!”
“He finds us!”
The 37-year-old says on the witness stand that all these years she was afraid to get help for herself and her family: “What would it have done for me? Wherever we are, he will find us.” Since she was 14 years old – she got to know the suspect – she has been completely dependent on him. The ten children they have together would also play a big role here. “I felt like I didn’t have a chance,” she says .
There was no one outside the family who could testify to the violence. Even the youth care did not notice anything of their regular visits. It’s adjourned!
